New from Clearwater, FL

I just recently got into triathlons as new way to stay motivated in keeping up with exercising and nutrition. In doing that, I found myself really enjoying cycling again. I just recently bought a Specialized Allez Eite. I've made a few upgrades and have found myself totally getting into cycling. One of the key reasons beyond the quality and fit of the bike itself was that I thought it looked great. I have the brushed aluminum version. I just ordered new higher end rims for it as well. I've learned that when I just really really like something, be it my guitar or now my bike, I'm a lot more motivated to stick with it. Since getting the Allez, I've found myself biking even more and taking longer rides. It's been a very positive experience and has helped me keep on track. I've lost just over a 100 pounds over the past year or so, and am well on my way to getting back to college fitness level of 240 10% bodyfat. I'm at 265 right now, so I have a ways to go, but this new passion has definately helped. I've found so much useful info and opinions on this board which has just got me that much more into cycling.

Welcome! Cool to see someone from my former part of town. I'm originally from Clearwater. Lived there almost my whole life.

Hey, I'm down in Sarasota. Welcome to the Forums. Congrats on the new bike and losing the weight. Keep it up, err, I mean going down!

I would recommend you read Dr. Dean Ornish's book for Reversing Heart
Disease...excuse the plug, but I read the paperback last winter, and
it certainly got me thinking about the massive amount of fat, stress
and life-style damage that we inflict on ourselves, needlessly.

I think a more moderate food consumption, more bicycle activity,
and better psychological environment can do wonders for quality
of life.

Welcome! My husband and I will be down there for a vacation some time in september. Perhaps we can solicit you for some advice on good road rides while down there and perhaps a group ride?

I'd stick with the Pinellas Trail. There's lots of folks down here that shouldn't be driving!!
The trail runs right through Clearwater on it's way up to Tarpon Springs from St. Pete.
Just mind the intersections, old drivers y'know don't seem to always see the stop
signs.

As far as places to ride in Clearwater,Beowoulfe is correct. The trail is a great place to ride. There's many long stretches to ride, plus there's great little places to stop and rest or eat along the way. Check out one of the best LBS around, http://chainwheeldrive.com/site/intro.cfm they have a lot of lokca ride info.

You'll hae a great time when you're here.
