Hi from Brooklyn, NY
Just discovered these forums. I am a 56 year old female, who just leaned how to ride a bike two years ago from a terrific guy who teaches NYC adults to ride. My latest accomplishment was completing BIKE NY, the 42 mile five borough bike tour on May 4. I ride often in Prospect Park (5 minutes from home) but really enjoy the unpaved trails outside of the city, particularly the rail trails. Signed up to do one of those Bike Vermont tours later this month. Biking has added a whole other dimension to my life.
My main other interest is traveling. Have been to Africa twice, recently to Brazil and Greece, to most of the islands of the Caribbean, Costa Rica, and parts of Europe. All of these trips have included my son who is now 17 and no longer interested in traveling with his mom. Looking forward to taking some biking trips in the future. Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
welcome! Hope you like this forum. If you can, find some hills, or even mountains to ride up. This will get your legs ready for Vermont, lovely state, but the hills are on steroids

hi lorraine. i just bought my girlfriend a bike for her b'day along with that terry chin bike riding class. i'm assuming that it's the class you took also. fun riding in prospect park huh. i'm not far from there also. i like to go night riding. especially in a light rain, like i did this memorial day weekend. love having the WHOLE park to myself at 1am. totally alone with my thoughts, the bike, and newly paved loop.

Hi Lorraine
Welcome to the site, nice to meet you. My wife and I be in Prospect Park riding all the time, especially at night, can't wait for it to get warmer.
Peace.

I sometimes do the Bay Parkway path, but find it a little boring. I tend to do it at times when the cars are on the roads in Prospect Park and when I don't have time to get out of the city. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome, welcome!
A lifelong veteran of Brooklyn myself...at least until I bought a house in Long Beach!
Brooklyn has some nice bike paths. Bike NYC is a hoot!
I used to ride the Belt Parkway, but on the most western end it is (or at least was!) rough at best!

That is the Marine Parkway Bridge (Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge).
It was recently overhauled and I am not sure about how accommodating it is for bicyclists, i.e. how narrow the walkway is, or whether you "must" walk your bike across.
Breezy Point and Riis Park are nice areas to extend a Belt Parkway ride.
