New to Biking, from North West England
Hi All,
I've decided it would be cool to get into mountain biking and to go off exploring, but admittedly I havn't got a clue what bike to get and havn't been on a bike since I was a kid. When I say mountain biking I'm perhaps not on about the most extreme cases, well not to start with anyway... I just want to get fit, explore & have fun at the same time: not to mention a great way to get around locally.
Not sure if this intro section is the right place to be asking this but: can anyone give me any pointers as to where to start & what to look for in a bike... as I say I havn't got the foggiest Ideally I would like to keep the budget within £500 but will spend more if necessary... I plan to start off around forest tracks locally, that sort of thing, and work my way up to more adventurous routes. People have been talking to me about suspension, gear types, alloy frames, etc etc.... I would just like some simple pointers as to the significance of these options and how each relates to riding if that makes sense?
Thanks in advance....

Northwest England? Lancashire?
As you are in the UK, have you looked into this:
https://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/sustainabl...mplementat5732
Then I would send you to the Mountain Bike forum, so you can look at the stickies.
Welcome to BF!

Hi East Hill,
I'm based Warrington way, thanks for the link but my daily commute takes circa 1hour in the car so im not sure I'm ready to cycle that yet
I'll have a look at the stickies as you advise.
