Hi from a noobie

After having my mt. bike in mothballs for many months and myself in horrible shape, I have begun again to ride. I have lost 70 pounds and can now bicycle for 25 miles without passing out or dying half way up a small hill. I have been cycling about 30-50 miles a week for the last three months or so.

So, why am I here? I've decided to start looking at getting a road bike since riding 20+ miles on a mt. bike is probably a waste of effort. I want to get as much information as possible about selecting the right road bike with the best features that I can afford. I will post something on the road bike board about this. I am also here because I believe I will enjoy discussing local rides, and future upgrades on my soon-to-own bicycle.

Many welcomes! You'll find some great information here regarding your quest for a road machine. You'll like it much more on the road with a road bike. I used to ride my older mountain bike on the road to stay in shape. However, the experience of a real road bike (longer distances, more speed, etc) is too sweet for words.

hsjb,

If you are looking for local routes, rides, and general support, I suggest you consider joining Western Wheelers Bike Club. Also, The Bicycle Outfitter at Loyola Corner has rides leading from the back of the store every Sunday morning.
