Hi,

I'm new to these forums and cycle commuting. This week, after months of fustration with Dublin bus services, I bought my first bike since I was a kid. And I am so excited about cycling again!
I've been doing my research about cycle commuting, and after all the doubts (it'ts too far, it might rain etc) were put to rest, I bought the bike, cycled to college, and now I'm looking for on online community. Looks like I found one right here!

I've started a blog to document my exeperiences of cycle commuting in Dublin (Ireland) as I found that there are not many online resources for cyclists in this area, and I also wanted to give blogging a try. My blog can be found at https://cyclechickirl.blogspot.com/

Carry a spare tube, tire levers and pump or CO2 inflator, then you wont be looking for a lift when you get a flat. Tires with kevlar belts give better protection against punctures, although the rim strips seem to have fixed your immediate problem. Glad you have found a helpful bike shop. Handle bar baskets are handy for light objects that you might want while you are riding, but you need to make sure they dont mess the front brake operation. I leave my U-lock on the rack at work to reduce the weight I carry. I have a little cable lock on the bike for emergencies. Nice to read your blog - good luck.

Thanks for your advice! I'm starting to put this kit together now, I got a pump, some tubes and a patch kit today. I'm still looking for a neat basket though, all the ones I've seen are huge! I'd never see my front wheel!

You probably will, we're still very car dependant here, not too many cyclists in general. Where exactly are you headed for?

We're cirmcumnavigating the island. By car though as I don't have enough time to cycle it. I think we'll only be in Dublin for a day or so, maybe about 9-10 days in Eire/NI as a whole.

Kerry and Donegal are beautiful to cycle through. Donegal is less touristy and has great secluded, clean and safe beaches. Have fun!

It looks like you're picking up things rather quickly, sometimes the "hard way" (based on what I have read). I think it would be pretty cool to see some pictures of the 'old country', even though my family is from the western side (county mayo).
