    New guy reporting in.

Hi, my name is Sal and I coach basketball. I have a bad back and since I can't run, I decided to buy a bike to get in shape. I haven't been on a bike in 35 years. The last bike I bought was a ten speed and cost 80 bucks new. Things have changed a lot!! I leaning towards a single speed 29er. I hope to learn a lot here. Thanks for having me.

Bikes are addictive, money pits, and time consuming.

    I love them.

Welcome to BF-you are among friends-there are some honestly nice people around here. Check out the Mountain Biking forum for advise about the 9er. See you around!

Hi Sal, you should also stop in at the regional forums (in your case, the Northeast forum) and say hi to your fellow Jerseyites. There's a lot of them here... . What age level/experience do you coach?

    Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the welcome. This week, I seem to have settled on a Jamis Cross Country 2.0. I tend to get carried away with my toys and I want to keep this one under $400 until I see if I'm going to stick with it.

East Hill, right now it's high school guys, but in the summer I work with 10 years thru college and a couple of overseas pros. It keeps me young and sore.

Welcome to the board, Sal. I'm two towns away in Edison if you want to ride together. What kind of riding are you planning to do? Are you using one of our local bike shops?

Thanks Neil, I plan to ride 5 to 10 miles 3 times a week to get back into shape. I've got a circuit right around where I live. No plans right now to become a world traveler. There are a couple of places around here that carry Jamis, just looking for the right price.

Welcome, Sal! Jamis makes good, solid bikes. I think you made a great choice. I don't own a car and ride my bike everywhere here, sometimes with the help of public transit. When my mom came to visit, she rode my housemate's little 3 speed all week. She was sore and tired at the end, but she did admit that her back felt a great deal better. I wish the same for you.

They recognize that the dialectic is not about making us look at you, but about us all looking together for the truth."
