Hey new here

Hey I am 15 years old and I live in MN. I always have been riding BMX and Mountain biking since I've been learning to ride bikes I guess. Now I do not have a bike and I am looking for a new one. I really don't know what kind of biking I will do. I guess I will be riding the small dirt jumps I built in my woods and riding on the road to get in shape for football. I was thinking BMX but I am 6'1" and in 9th grade and I know I will get taller so I am guessing BMX is going to be small for me if I want to go on my usual 9 mile treks during the summer. But I don't know if I can afford a good mountain bike. My parents view of a bike is going to Target and picking up some cheap bike but I want better than that. I was thinking of buying used from a bike shop. What are your thoughts on my situation? It just confuses me haha. But enough of my rambling, looks like you have great forums here and I hope to gain lots of info!

Hello cat in the hat, from the description you've given, it sounds as if you still want a BMX bike! But I think a BMX bike would be fairly uncomfortable for 9 mile rides eventually. Have you tried looking at the local Craigslist?

I noticed someone has a Bridgestone MB-5 for sale in the MSP CL for $120--nice bike, looks to be in good shape blah blah blah...you don't need to go to Target to get a cheap bike! If you wanted a cheap road bike, someone's got a nice Schwinn LeTour for $50! That would make a great road bike (disclosure: I love vintage bikes). Since you're wanting to do conditioning for football, weight wouldn't be a big deal for you.

Welcome to BF!
