Greetings from Newbie Athena in Phoenix

Hi all! I've been lurking for a couple weeks and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Kathy. I'm in the Phoenix metro area. My doctor told me to get some more cardio exercise. So I drug my bike (Trek Navigator 2.0) out of the garage a couple months ago and started riding regularly. I had forgotten how much I enjoy riding. I'm hooked now! I've been crawling out of bed at the crack of dawn to beat the heat. I'm slow but I'm building up some endurance. I'm hoping to break 100 miles in a week this week. Last week I made 90. I'm looking forward to virtually meeting all y'all.

Hello Kazzy, there are quite a few members in PHX, check out the regional forum for the Southwest to meet some more locals. You are not the only one who gets up early to beat the heat!

Welcome to BF!

Anybody that says "all ya'll" is alright in my book! Welcome to the forums. Now go out and ride that extra 10 miles so you can make it to 100 this week.

Welcome, Kathy! I am in Phoenix, too, up north near the 101/51, though. And I'm new here, too. I did about 30 miles last weekend (the first weekend I had the chance), though! I am so glad I got a bike, I can't believe how happy it makes me to take it out.

I hear ya about the crack of dawn thing, too. I "slept in" both days this weekend and went out around 7 for a while, but it wasn't quite so hot then, either. I think that'll be much too late to get up and ride again until September or so.

<---the color I'll turn if I'm out when it's 105*

Nice to virtually meet you, too!

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm up to 50 miles so far this week, but I think I'm going to have to take a break tomorrow. I'm still on track for 100 miles though. It's only tuesday!

mirage- I know what you mean about the color thing . I hit the trail shortly after 5 this AM and my face was still pretty red by the time I got home. I've lived here for more than 25 years and I've never really gotten used to the heat!

-Kathy
