New member from Dallas, TX

Hello All,
My name is Dave. I'm 36 years old. I live in Dallas, Tx. A friend got me interested in mountain biking about 10 years ago, but after a few years and umpteen wrecks I decided that I'd had enough of that. Now I ride on the pavement, but not necessarily on the road. I put slicks on my mountain bike and rode that for a long time, but recently I decided to purchase my first road bike. It's a beauty: Tommasini Sintesi steel frame, Ultegra components, Velomax wheels. First ride out, WHAMMO! I allowed a bad actor on the bike path to run me off the trail into a wooden fence. I took a header into a 6 inch square fence post at 15-20mph. HIAWATHA! And that was my first ride on that path while wearing a helmet! Used that brand new helmet up in one shot! Ainyhoo, I'm just a recreational rider, no hardcore. I work too much, don't ride enough. Never been on any long rides( >30 miles ), never been on a group ride, though I'd like to...I'm here because I enjoy reading your posts and staying up to date on aaall the latest info...If you're still reading up to this point...Bless you.
I think I'm done here,
seeya,
Dave

Welcome to the Forums! You'll probably be able to find some group rides in your area or at least some members here that will cheer you on as you add on the miles! Sorry about that new helmet, but at least you had it, eh? Liz

Also Dallas.
And Man.. I can relate to your crash.. I had one not too long ago that was alos a head first affair. Wasnt easy to dig the sunglasses out of my face and convinced me to wear a helmet from then on... I had headaches only on that side of my head for about a year... but hey I am still alive!!! Tell me when you are gonna ride Whiterock... I will join you down there so you can ride circles around me.

Thanks for the welcome y'all!
cAPS, yeah I'm up for a Whiterock ride. Lately I've been working too much to ride except on the weekends, but I'm trying to change that. Last Saturday I rode 41 miles on the Whiterock trail @ 17mph avg speed. That was my longest ride yet. This Saturday I intend to go 50mi( I usually start my ride at about 3-4pm ). If I can work up to it in time, I'd like to ride the HTH 100 at the end of August.
And yeah, I'm totally down with the helmet! There are just too many ninnies on that path to go without one. When I first started riding my road bike I never wore a helmet. I mean, I was used to wrecks off road, but how unlikely to wreck on a smooth bike path! I thought it would never happen. Now I'll never ride without one.

Well.. I MIGHT see you around the lake tomorrow... I will be on a yellow and black specialized allez with a yellow helmet, black bike pants and a blue tank top... I am hard to miss as I am slow and usually panting deeply.

If you are doing 50 on the lake and I am there at the same time you are bound to pass me eventually.
