From Lower Hudson Valley

Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for a while, gathering information like a squirrel gathering nuts for winter. Just thought I'd pop in and actually say hello, rather than be the creepy guy looking in the internet window.

Hello drewpyperc, so you're one of those squirrel lurkers, eh ? Good to have you join us, and don't be afraid to do some posting, all right? What kind of riding do you do?

Check out the regional forums as well.

Welcome to BF!

Hi East Hill. I mostly ride on the road, but I have been really lazy this year. I just bought a different bike (2005 Merlin Solis) which I will be building up in the coming weeks. Hopefully it will fit better, as my current bike (Trek 2200) isn't working as well for me as I would like. I've been blaming the bike for my lack of riding since I end up with pain after rides because I'm too stretched out. However, it is certainly true that I've just been lazy and haven't ridden enough. I'll be changing that soon, as my wife will really let me have it if I don't ride this new bike!

Thanks for the reply. Happy riding!

Your Solis is a gorgeous bike. However, if I were your wife, I would simply appropriate it from you if you didn't ride it (assuming it fits) . Certainly too beautiful a bike to have mouldering in one's garage...

I would gladly buy her one as well, but she doesn't ride. She has vision/depth perception issues, and doesn't think she would be very good on a bike. She does fine driving (although she hates it), so I think she would be fine on a bike. She's never ridden a bike. She grew up in midtown Manhattan, and biking wasn't as common as it was where I grew up (rural Kentucky--nothing much else to do when you're a kid, unless you don't mind the risk of getting arrested for other common "activities").

I would think driving a car with vision and depth perception problems would be much scarier in a car than on a bike, due to the greater rate of speed of the car. Oh well, it's a bit like leading a horse to water, eh? Perhaps one day when she sees how much fun you have, she'll join in on the fun.

Well, she only drives when she absolutely has to. She has a 1998 model car, and it has just under 21,000 miles on it. Splits her time working in Manhattan and the town we live in. Either way, she usually walks to work or to the train. Hopefully someday I can get her on a bike. Maybe one of those fancy recumbent trikes I've seen. She'd probably be fine with that!

A trike would probably work quite well! Oh well, perhaps for the future .
