New from Ottawa, Canada

Hey folks,

I am just looking to get back into cycling. I used to commute from Orleans to downtown Ottawa when I had a job working for the Canadian Federal Government, but now, unfortunately am in sales and marketing, and can't get away with bike commuting. I am considering getting rid of my 14 year old hybrid for either a performance hybrid or road bike. I have looked at the Giant FCR and OCR bikes, as well as Eclipse and Kona. So far, I like the Giant products, but am still shopping.

Welcome!

Check out the cyclocross bikes, I just got a Lemond Poprad and love it. You can keep the nobbies on it for some offroading or put some road tires on it if you want more speed. If you like Kona then I'd recommend the Jake the Snake. Very versatile bikes.

Hello jwnrw, sorry to hear that you can no longer bike commute. I don't have any first hand knowledge of any of the bikes you've mentioned, but that doesn't mean I can't say

Welcome to BF!

On Saturday I pulled the trigger on a Specialized Sequoia road bike at a LBS. It was last year's model - on sale for $849 CDN - the current year model was $1049 CDN, but is exactly the same bike except my new bike has a suspension seat post - go figure. I am not sure if I will keep the seat post - but will try it out first to see what it's like. Not having ridden seriously in a number of years, the associate suggested that they firm it up some for me, but not entirely eliminate the suspension. Then in a year or two upgrade to a carbon seat post. I don't get it until much later as I will be away for an extended period of time but look forward to posting pics and reporting overall ride results when I get it.
