    Howdy from TN

I'm from Hendersonville, TN just north of Nashville. I'm not mean, it's just a nickname my friends gave me, kinda like calling a fat guy Slim. I've ridden on an off since I was a kid, I'm 29 now. My current bike is a Cannondale M400 mountain bike that I bought used locally. I had one just like it in college, but it was stollen and I've been too busy with work to do any riding since then.

I decided to get back into cycling to get excercise, loose weight, and just get away from the day to day stress. I'm 6'2" tall and around 235lbs, so I guess that puts me in the clydesdale category. I don't know what my ideal weight would be, but I'm thinking around 200 would be healthy for me. I've already dropped a couple holes in my belt and will soon be punching a new one.

I've been riding my MTB at least 4 times a week since I got it. At first a 1 mile ride would kill me, now I've been doing 6 miles everyday on the road and could probably go a little further. I've been enjoying the road riding much more and am looking at getting a nice road bike. I've set a goal for myself to get the road bike. Once I can ride 20 miles on the MTB on roads, I'll treat myself to a brand new road bike. I've just been looking at the LBS and I'm leaning towards a Specialized Roubaix Elite.

So, that's me in a nutshell. Another fat guy, finding a fun way to exercise.

Hello MeanMike, I'm happy to know that you aren't really mean .

It sounds as if you've found the Clydesdales forum, and you've certainly got your goals and priorities lined up. The Roubaix Elite is a nice reward for yourself when you reach that goal!

Head over to the regional forums to say hello to the rest of the TN folks. I've been through your area (my husband's great grandfather was from Franklin) and it looks as if it would be a great place to ride. I had some lovely hikes through a couple of the local state parks.

    Welcome to BF!

I'm sure everybody likes pictures, so here is a pic of my bike that the original owner sent. I took the headlight off and added a Sigma wireless computer that will get transfered to the roadbike when I get it. I've also added a small bag under the seat and clipless pedals. Yes, I fell when learning the clipless pedals, but luckily only hurt my pride.

    Meanmike,

Welcome to BF. I am glad to see you're working hard towards your goals. I have seen so much health benefit from riding bicycles. Although I have ridden bicycles all my life, I truly got into recreational cycling since Aug 06. Till date I have managed to lose 25 lbs (185lbs to 160 lbs), but have gained back 7lbs during winter. Now I am back up again riding a lot to bring myself down to 150lbs.

Check out the local bike club page: www.harpethbikeclub.com. Come out and ride with us sometime. Also, I will be up for riding around Hendersonville if you know any good routes, especially after you get your Roubaix elite. We could then go for a good 25-50 mile ride in the countryside.

    See you on the road.

Very nice, Mike. At the rate you are going, 20 miles is not too far off. My husband started at about 5 miles, and rapidly progressed to about 12 (yes, on a Trek 4300 MTB). Yesterday he did 31 miles on the MTB . This in less than a year...and crypticlineage sounds as if he's anxious to get a riding partner. Having a partner is a great way to get better, by the way.

crypticlineage- I don't know of any good long routes in Hendersonville. I live on a bike friendly road and that's where I ride most of the time, but the route is at most 8 miles long. There seems to be too much traffic everywhere else. I've been contemplatin comuting to and from work (9 miles each way), but with the traffic and lack of showers at work I've put it off for now. I'm sure I'll get out and do a group ride with you guys once my stamina builds some more.

East Hill- I seem to be adding a couple miles each week so far. I'm sure I'll reach my goal very quickly. I have a friend that rides with me, but he likes to hit the trails more so than the road, but for now we mix it up pretty well.

I have the money to go buy the bike today, but I figured I would make it interesting to set a goal and work for it. A brand new bike gives me plenty of motivation to go out and ride each day.
