Heya from KC.
Ron here, from Kansas City. Started riding "The Tank" (older Giant Hybrid) about four months ago. I love that bike--'cept when I started doing group rides--even the chubby, old ladies would drop me. Sooooo, I bought me my first road bike, a Giant OCR1. Not that I'm partial to Giant, but the LBS is three block from my humble abode. Love the OCR, too.
Recently completed the Katy Trail (all 255 miles across MO), pushing "The Tank" up to 67 miles/day over hardpack and chat. Whew! This is a wonderful five-day tour sponsored by the MO Dept. of Natural Resources. It's very inexpensive, less that $300 for the week. Hot showers every day, superb breakfast and dinner served, and great SAG every 10 miles w/eat and drink. This is what many tours charge for a day or two--w/o showers, and maby they throw in a box lunch. I'm not advertising for the DNR Katy Trail tour, but this tour ROCKS! I will do it every year, no question.
Next goal is to ride the KC MS 150 in early Sept. I'm putting the miles/time in now to be ready.
See ya on the road.

Hello rkotay, it sounds as if you had a blast! Just don't forget that sometimes those chubby old ladies could have been ex-champions back in the day ...
Head over to the regional forums as well, and say hi. You can find quite a few Bike Forums member in KC, perhaps even enough for a group ride .
Welcome to BF!

Yea, I know. Learned very early, in cycling, you cannot tell what a person "has" from his/her appearance. Most of the older guys look like they rolled out of the nearest beer garden belly and all.
I've been riding with the Greater Liberty Riders on Saturdays. Very enjoyable. I'm checking out some other group rides during the week. Just finished teaching summer school. "I've got the time if you got the dime."
Thanks for the reply.
See you on the road.
