Slow-Moe

Hi all, I should start by saying I'm only a very "casual" rider. I've had a Raleigh C40 for about 4 years now, and it's an OK bike for my riding style...which is very unhurried and slow. Here in Austin we have lots of "hard core" cycling enthusiasts, and I'm sure these guys on their expensive Italian bikes find me a bit amusing as they blow past me, lol. I don't ride when it's too hot, or too cold, and there is no way I could be called a serious cyclist...it's all about just enjoying a slow, pleasant ride on a nice day, for me.
I find myself posting here because an ebay seller is offering a folder I was interested in. I see you have a separate forum just for folders, so I won't go into the details here, at this time. I was actually looking at some r/c vehicles (my major addiction), but this seller also had the folding bike, which looked too good to be true...
Anyway, like most of us, I've had one or another bike most of my life. I still have many fond memories of my trusty old Schwinn, which expanded my 10-year-old universe much farther than my feet alone would have taken me. I seem to be rambling now, but I'll try to keep future posts short and concise.

Hello Slow-Moe, that Raleigh C40 is a pretty useful bike, so I would not worry too much about the roadies who blow by--after all, they have a big reputation to live up to in Austin, and unless the name of one of them is Lance Armstrong, they are not likely to be up to snuff .

Anyway, feel free to ramble or be concise as you wish, it's all good.

East Hill, thnx for the welcome. I actually did see Lance Armstrong once, at a local barbecue joint. One of the people I was with had to dig me in the ribs and say, "Hey...that's Lance Armstrong!" before I even noticed him. Just dressed in regular street clothes, and I probably wouldn't have glanced twice if he hadn't been pointed out to me.
Yeah, I like my C40. For the price, it's a pretty good bike, imo. I mostly ride paved streets, but it can take the occasional short-cut across drainage easements, etc. I came very close to buying a bike at Walmart, but a friend (thankfully!) steered me away from that decision. Always best to buy from a bike store.

You have a good friend if they are keeping you out of the Wal-mart toy section! As I said, the C40 is a useful bike, and if it serves your purpose, well, that's what gets you out there riding. A road bike is a wonderful thing for going fast, but it doesn't handle gravel roads very well (unless it's got wider than normal tyres ).
