FNG in Westchester NY

Greetings and salutations. It's been 20 years in June since I bought my Rossin racer. I still have it, but I don't really ride anymore. For one thing, about 10 years ago, I started working in NYC, and with the commute and my work, I did not have the time to ride after work, like I did when I worked close to home. Second, I'm now 51, and my get up and go seems to have gotten up and gone. I am now once again working close to home, but I just don't have the energy to do 25--30 miles after work, or before.

Plus, the traffic around here as gotten much worse in these past ten years. I have so many close calls when I did some rides last year---it's just not enjoyable. . sad but true. I still have the Rossin, and all my tools ( I serviced the bottom bracket in my beater Raleigh mountain bike a few weeks ago), but the bike mocks me when I walk by. . but I can't bring myself to sell it. . .too many memories. . .

Anyway, so my wife and I have these beat up old mountain bikes--her an old Trek and me, the Raleigh "Technium" that I bought off an associate back in, 1988 or '89, I think. Used it to commute to the train station, and around town--putt-putting. So I started thinking about getting some kind of hybrids so we could ride more, putt-putting and stuff. . . poked around the intrawebz. . . so today we brought home our new bikes: Raleigh Venture for her, and Raleigh Passage for me. Nice bikes, nothing fancy, we won't be winning any time trials, but for what we want, they're fine.

So that's it. . .I am looking for a rack to mount on her Venture--she broke down and got the step through frame ("I have to think of the future" she said)---so that seat tube geometry is pretty kooky. . I'm going to go post in General for some help with that. .

Hello Fudgie Ghost, if you can't bring yourself to sell the Rossin, perhaps you could post photos in the Classic & Vintage forum? We would enjoy seeing your bike!

Don't forget to check out the Northeast regional forum!

Welcome to BF!
