Whats up eveyone.

Hey guys, I'm new here of course. I live in Florida. I just got a used bike for my birthday 2 months ago, and I have been using it this summer because my parents are at work all day and I want a way to get to and from my friends houses. I also do crew at my highschool, which is the most physically intense sport there is to take. But for the summer I need a way to stay in shape. I want to join here to meet other people, and to learn how to make the most of my bike and my experience as a biker.

Hi Jake, what kind of bike did you get? And what kind of riding do you do? Cyclocross is a pretty intense way to keep in shape, and triathlons can help too.

Welcome to BF!

It's a Diamondback Wildwood Deluxe 2003, I have no idea if it is good or not, but I like it a lot. I do a lot of riding on the road through my town. There are some trails that I go on every so often.

I had one of those! It's reposing somewhere deep in a ravine nowadays...it's a long story. Anyway, it's not a top end bike, but it's not the bottom of the barrel either. When you do upgrade one of these days, you will find that it has made you enormously strong .

Yeah, I love it, I have gotten to a point where I can skip a few traffic rules, and run some lights if no one is there, and I can usually beat my friends who are in cars.

Too dangerous for me, doing that. Or else you have much saner drivers there than I do here.

Well, I live in and area where there is little traffic, only at peak hours, otherwise I can cross any street any time for the most part. Can you explain that sport that you told me about earlier, I checked out that part of the forums but I didn't really find anything that told me exactly what it was. Thanks so much.

Wikipedia is your friend:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclocross

It's a very strenous sport, although I don't know if you would be able to find any races where you live. You'd have to ask in the cyclocross forum.
