Hallo from Random UK newbie

Hallo, ok so quick lowdown on me.

Was an Mech/elec Fitter (Engineer without the degree) . Had a bit of a motorbike crash a few years ago, so have decided to go back to school to try for those magic papers. I say decided but really it was the "medical retirement" that prompted things.
Have cycled since i was very little, two wheels have really been the way forward especially after the one with the engine made life more interesting. Theres allot more to me and my madness but thats enough for one post.
Going to add that yes i do intend on getting back on a motorbike at some point but have never and will never give up cycling. I get asked that question a lot!

Right have fun and catch you laters, i'm off for lunch

Scotty

Hello Scotty, good to hear that you are still in with the cycling . How long before you are a master? What kind of bike have you got, then?

Welcome to BF!

I think it will be some time before i master the tarmac on any wheels but heres to trying!
Main commuter bike is a Dawes Hybrid with an extra few tweeks, such as Xt mech's and V brakes with a thinner racing front wheel and a black spray can coating to prevent onlookers from thinking its worth something.
My pride is the summer bike which is a Mercian "King of Mercia" touring frame from 83 that i picked up two years ago from a lovely restorer in kent area.

Use to ride mountain bike's but the old man put me on 700c wheels and other than missing a few jumps stuck with the larger frames for covering the miles.

We have a thread going on that very subject at the moment in Classic & Vintage:

Mercian. King of Mercia?

We'd love to see photos, when you've got time .

Welcome, Scotty. Have you considered a free picture hosting service like Photobucket? I think it's the least annoying way to get pictures up here.

Hmmm, if you go to photobucket and click on the IMG code of the selected photo, it will flash a yellow 'copied'. Come back here, and simply do a 'control + v' to paste. Your photos should show up full size that way.

But from what I can see your Mercian is VERY nice. What's the material for the handlebar tape?

To be perfectly honest i have no idea the guy that i bought it from put it on, other than keep it clean and oiled i have bearly had to do anything to it, just a small tweek to the gears.

I ride the dawes most days im heading into towns because im petriffied that im going to come back to the Mercian with bits missing. Though i ride it at least once a week and so far other than a small ish scratch on the frame its been fine. Confesion the tape cut was due to thinking i was further from a wall than i actually was.

I think because most people are far more interested in Mountain bike parts, the racers or tourers the majority of the time get left , part of the reason i have a dismantled Marin in the shed. Even so the Dawes has a health matt black over coat to hide the XT equiptment and any other pertruding names.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep the Mercian in one piece! Now I'm going to encourage you to head over to the Classic & Vintage forum, because I know they will want to see your Mercian too .
