New guy by accident..

Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jeff. I titled this thread as such because I had no intentions of becoming a road cyclist. I got the idea to ride in a charity ride to raise money for 4H clubs in West Virginia. The ride covers 250 miles in 4 days(I'll post more info on the "Charity Ride" section later), so I started training on the road with an older Trek 820 mountain bike converted to a hybrid. While training I realized that road riding suited me very well. I completed the ride in mid-June on this same bike and vowed to get myself a road bike soon after. I found a mid-80's Ross Gran Tour at a yard sale (A bargain at $25.00) just by chance. This bike is in awesome shape and was very well taken care of over its life, apparently the person who rode it was exactly the same size as me because all I did was adjust the seat up about 1/4 of an inch and it is just right. O.K enough rambling, I'm in the process of putting the bike on a diet and changing some of the components to lighter more up to date pieces. I'm glad to be a part of the forum and really look forward to picking all of your brains for clever ideas. Thanks for being here, Jeff

Hi Jeff, I'm going to hustle you over to Classic & Vintage before you change your mind about being a cyclist. Bring photos!

Welcome to BF!

Welcome to bikeforums from another WV boy. I live down in Charleston but make it to Charles Town twice a year for the Mountain Heritage festivals where we set up a booth.

Thanks Lowcel, The ride I talked about took us from Charles Town to the state 4H camp(Jackson's Mill) in Weston just a little ways North of you. Also I posted a link to some pics of my Ross in the Classics/Vintage section...

Very nice. Weston is only about 120 miles from me, not to far at all.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.
