Hey, New Here

Hey you guys..

Well..

Ive always loved bikes.. thanks to my uncle, he would spend hundreds on his. He had some real expensive bikes... and my mom sold them 2 of them for 30 bucks >.> 2 Swchwins or somethign like that.

Anyways.. I have this real old old redline, from back in the day, probably about as old as me. When it was given to me, i was like 10. Belonged to my moms ex-boyfreind, which he had for like 10 years... so..

Right now im 17.. and the bike is in pretty bad shape.. stickers that he had on it still stuck to the frame.. its all chrome and it has some old, flat wheels..

It has one of those old seats with a wheel on it.

And well i wan to restore it and make it look decent, and ride awesome. Its a oldschool BMX Racing Bike.. later on my grandmother took it to a bike shop were the installed the newer style brakes that allows teh handle bar to spin 360*, from my knowledge, the frame is a all alluminum built.. it feels a bit heavy though, but still.. its a nice bike.

Bike has history, its about 17-20 Years old.

And, i hope on restoring it very soon, so i can loose the fat >.>

Im 17, about 5'5 and weigh 220. Not very happy with myself. -_-

I hope to loose it by biking..

Hello Last, do you have photos of the bike? Some of the old school BMXs can be worth a fair amount of money (not saying that's the case here, just sayin', ya know?). They're always interesting to see, though .

Welcome to BF!

As I said, it just depends. I'll look forward to seeing it, though.

Welcome! Restoring a bike can be a rather fun (and expensive) ordeal. From what it sounds like, the bike is pretty cool as you don't see many full-chrome bikes anymore. As East Hill said, the bike could be worth something. I would give it a shot and see how it comes out. Riding is one of the most fun things you can do and it will definitely help to loose some weight if that is what you are aiming for. Give it a try. I hope everything turns out well for you.

P.S. The thing installed by the shop that lets you spin the bars all the way around is called a gyro, which you may or may not like. If you don't like it you can take that off and switch to a straight cable, which is exactly how it sounds. The straight cable goes straight from your lever to your brakes and is a lot easier to maintain and usually has better results.

I can't help you with how good the bike is, but I can tell you that with a bit of work, the bike's chrome can probably be salvaged:

The folks over at vintagebmx might be able to help identify your bike.

It's not a bad start. Don't be too concerned about any rust that hasn't gotten underneath the chrome; that ought to clean up as if it never happened. It probably looks worse than it is.

Just the act of making time each day to ride your bike will do wonders for your outlook, I hope you can work it into your routine. And please don't hesitate to ask all the questions that will occur to you during the bike repair and riding. All the best.
