Greetings from The Swamp (Gainesville, FL)

I just purchased my first road bike and want to get connected with other roadies. I'm a competitive runner and I'm looking to break into the competitive world of cycling. I've ridden a lot of x-country on my mountain bike in the past, but don't have the time that I used to travel througout the SE to ride. I heard this was a good place to meet people and I look forward to a new challenge with my new bike. Keep riding!

Hello KD, I suspect you will have no problem finding other roadies here . Do check out the regional forums and say hi to the locals, though.

What bike did you get?

Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the note. I bought a Trek Madone 5.0 and I've been thrilled so far. I debated over aluminum or carbon and after riding both, carbon won me over, without a doubt. Plus, I found a great deal in Atlanta through Trek's Hit the Road Sale on 2007 models, and couldn't resist it's all around sweetness! I got some Look Keo pedals and I'm still trying to find the right shoes. I really want to get some Sidi's, but after dropping 2 G's on the bike, I hesitate spending $200 more right away on shoes. I thought about rolling with my Time Attack (MTB pedals) and shoes that I already have until I find the right deal on some road shoes.

What do you ride? How long have you been riding? Can you offer me any training suggestions to help get me started?

I look forward to hooking up with some locals here in G'ville. Thanks again!

I will ride just about anything that is steel . Seriously, I love vintage bikes, and have quite a stable of them (12 I think at last count), ranging from a 1979 Nishiki Pro to a relatively modern 2000? full Campy Rodriguez. Been riding for at least the last ten years.

I'm just a recreational rider who is serious about keeping in shape, so I get out there everyday, commute, etc., but I don't really have any training suggestions for someone who's as serious as you are. That would be more a question for the Road Cycling forum.

You've got a sweet bike, though .
