Hi, I am a 57 year old man who began riding on his 56th birthday, about 14 months ago. My wife gave me a Trek Navigator 300 for my birthday. At the time, I weighted about a biscuit shy of 290lbs and was tired of being fat. I hadn't decided on cycling, but the gift kind of sealed it.
I am down to 240 and with a goal of 195. Hopefully, it won't take as long to lose it as gaining.
I had umpired baseball, from little league upto and including NCAA Division I baseball until my knees gave out. That was in about 1996 and I was sedentary after that.
I am retired U.S. Navy and enjoy baseball, football, a dash of NASCAR, and cycling. In fact, cycling has become a nearly consuming passion.
Next birthday, my wife has promised me a real road bike. Depending on the budget, I am hoping for a LeMond Buenos Aires or Trek 2200. OR, if I am lucky, a Zurich!

I do beleive that the wife is a keeper!! I'm gald you enjoy cycling even after your knee problems. Its great tha your getting a road bike and i would push for the zurich

Central Md, aye? Hmmmmmm, sounds like Howard County? I ride in the Hagerstown area, and the entire length of the C&O Canal Towpath, but mostly in the Harpers Ferry to Paw Paw sections. Ever do that? Great riding for 184 miles , off limits to motor vehicles

Actually, Anne Arundel County. I was measuring "Central" from north to south. I live in Gambrills, about mid-way between Baltimore and D.C.
No, I haven't yet ridden the C&O Canal path, but it is on my list ot places to ride. We have a few paths in this are, the B@A Trail, which is only about 13 miles. It connects to the BWI Trail around the airport, for another 11 miles, all on vehicle free trails.
When you add in my route to the B&A, through Crofton, to Annapolis, and my route back home, south from the Airport, it is a total of about 54 miles. That, so far, has been my longest trip. I am, however, continually stretching it out.
