Hi I just started riding and Im so stoked. I'd never ridden anything that had gears let alone toe clips. Now I can actually slip thru my gears and do the toe clips without looking. Hey its a start. A friend who is a serious rider not only turned me onto riding but found me my bike. I have an awesome Terry. I keep it in my backseat so when any random free time comes up I can go. So Im glad to join the group so I can find out all I can about bikes and riding.

Welcome greenpearl. I'm a newbie myself. Was beginning to think I was the only one not riding centuries on a regular basis!

greenpearl, it's a wonderful thing getting on a bike, and the only thing better is well, getting better on the bike!
You sound as if you are well on your way. Which Terry did you get?
Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the welcome. I couldnt stand it anymore so the other day I got out my biking shoes that came with my bike (guy I got my bike from sent them and extra cleats) and clipped in. It was awesome and felt so good, I really noticed the difference in pedaling between the clips and being clipped in. Im really loving riding. Ive done a couple of 30 miles. but want to do more. Where I live there is this huge hill/mountain and Im going to start practicing so I can do it. I cant remember but I think in some places its 12% grade-thatll spank you!!!! And there really isnt any shoulder to ride on in a lot of places, which is a little scary because people like to go fast on the curvy road. But itll be kick butt to ride it. My friend did it on a fixed gear holy crap. Im glad also that Im not the only newb.

Thanks for the welcome and totally right about the riding and getting better. I really feeling like I am cornering better and the gear shifting is a lot smoother. I was riding one day and everything just came together and it was so awesome just my bike and me, yes I found my sweet spot. Life is good. Im also learning to do my own mechanic work-hate to have to have somebody else do it for me. Plus next spring I want to take off on my bike and start seeing the U.S. Kind of big but it seems like the only way to do it. Oh my bike is a classic, I think if I remember its about 12 years old but there is nothing old about my bike, its beautiful. Happy riding.

A 12% grade is pretty steep! Especially without a shoulder...
Learning to do your own wrenching is a good idea, in particular if you want to see the US from the bike! Saves money, and you know whether or not you can trust the job you do .
Got any photos of the Terry? The Classic's a nice bike.
