newbie from Illinois

Hi Everyone,

Newbie to the forums, Relatively new to road riding. 1st year with a road bike. Giant OCR-1. I also have a Giant mountain bike.
I get out as much as couple - 3 times during the week and a long ride on Sunday mornings.
Looking for rides around Elgin, Illinois area.

Take care

Hello CJ, check in with the Great Lakes regional forum to find those local rides. How many miles are you managing, and do you favour mountain biking or road cycling?

Welcome to BF!

I prefer road cycling. I like to push the envelope, so to speak.

During the week I manage 45-50 miles total for 2-3 nights and 40 miles + on the weekend.

How about you? which do you prefer and mileage?

I spend more time on the road bike (because of my commute), but I like to get out on the MTB at least once a week and go for a ride. I also (not very well at all) practice bunnyhopping with the BMX bike, but I don't think I will ever get the hang of it. Fun trying, but not very realistic .

Shortest commute is around 8.6 miles, but varies widely depending on my mood going home. 40-50 miles on the road bike on the weekend, and about 25 or so on the MTB.

I live about 6 miles from work. So I ride in a lot. When I get home and take care of a couple of things I go out for about 16-18 miles. Some nights it is hills, over in sleepy hollow and algonquin.
I never took my MTB to the mountains. Use it more to get me going with riding a couple of years ago.
I'm rather tall, so me on a BMX looks funny.
I only been road riding for this year. So still not that good at handling a bike. Getting better with each ride.

You don't know what you're missing! MTB is completely different from road cycling--a lot more finesse involved at times.

hehehe, yes tall people do look um, odd on BMX bikes .

Practice is good!
