Hello from Aetherguy881

I'm dropping in here and saying hi to everyone, and just letting you know a bit about myself.

You can call me by my username, or by Mark, or Paul. Mark's my first name, Paul's a nickname from the dorm...

I've been biking for almost my whole life, however I don't know the most about bikes. I know how to fix simple things like lose breaks and flats.

I live in East Hampton, CT but I'm in Wilkes-Barre, PA for college.

I've placed in the Belltown Classic, part of the root 66 race series once, in '06 I got 2nd.

I'm interested in strengthening my knowledge in bike repair so I don't have to go and get it fixed, and I wish to become more proficient on the trail.

Sadly I'm obviously not from the area and I don't know of any trails. I've heard of a trail in Kirby Park, but I don't know how fun that'll be.

Anyway, just saying hi.

Member Little Darwin is in Wilkes-Barre...

Hello Mark! There is a lot of information available here, just do some reading--helpful forums could include the Bicycle Mechanics forum, and go visit Sheldon Brown's website (there's a sticky for his site in the Bicycle Mechanics forum ).

What kind of bike/s have you got?

Welcome to BF!

Ahh! How cold I forget that?

I have a Trek 4500. For many years it has served me quite well.

Kirby Park is a flat ride along the levee, I love it, but it is not a mountain bike trail...

I apologize that it took me almost a week before I noticed your PM, I usually am prettty good at checking... I should have known that East Hill would have been the one to mention me being in Wilkes-Barre. She seems to be the unofficial social director here at BikeForums! And she does a fine job of it.

I thought the Tubs seemed like a place that looked like a place to ride...

https://www.dirtworld.com/trails/trai...20Bike%20Trail

If you don't have a car, it might be tough to get there, but basically, I would guess that any good trails would be past 81...

To get to the Tubs without freeway accesss...

If you ride up Northhampton, and continue up all the way past 81, and ride up the hill where the Giants Despair hill climb is raced (this is an annual car race hil climb) then take a left at the top, you could get to 309. Once you get to 309, I think you would then take a left and head down hill to the Tubs which would be on the left.

There may be some good mountain bike rides that are easier to get to as well, but I don't know them.

As I mentioned in PM, check with Tom or Rich at Around Town Bikes as they are a good source of local cycling information.

Sorry for necroposting my thread...

Update, the 4500 was stolen back in '07. The lock was cut out front of the dorm. It was a bad karma for keeping the bike around after I had an appendectomy...

I now have a Trek 6000 and there's several guys here at Wilkes that I ride with. We've mostly been riding around the river. Some of the guys just went to Moon Lake, It looks like a worthwhile trip for the rest of us.

Oh, and the bike stays in the apartment when not in use.
