Greetings from sunny, warm Rochester, NY
well, it's sunny and warm for at least a few months out of the year. I have always loved bicycling, but for 6 years (from age 17-23) I completely forgot my love of bicycles as I attempted to be a motorist. I went through 6 different lemon cars in those 6 years, so I gave up. I just started riding again in the past year, and I don't miss driving cars at all! I commute to work, and then cruise around my neighborhood for fun. I have pics of my bikes on flickr:

I am happy to join this online community of bike love. See you around.

Caitlin appreciated the compliments for her photo, and she was excited to hear that you're from Rockland county, Brian, she is actually from Blauvelt. Small world.

Welcome fellow commuter! Our Rochester representation is starting to show in this forum! Why, we may even take over!!
You deal with the lovely city to execute the commute?

Yeah, I love the ride in, it actually wakes me up better than coffee. And my downtown Rochester commute really isn't bad, I live right on University near starry nights, and I ride up to East Main and ride that down to my building, which is right on the corner of East Main and St. Paul. The only part that is ever an issue is when I have to dodge and weave between city buses at that bus hub by the liberty pole. Where are you commuting to/from, Tude? Ever do critical mass here?

No critical mass here, but I get notices from them (don't think there's been one in a while) - I'm the Publicity Director for the Rochester Bicycling Club - and retiring from it (yeah) this year so I can concentrate more on the Twilight Crit organizing and the Rochester Marathon (I'm a race official).
Also ride the Tuesday night Urban Assaults and Tour deBar on Thursday's (when they show up that is). TdB is fun

During one of my trips to New York, a bus struck and killed a pedestrian, and kept going. No one else even noticed.
Ride carefully.

I've actually heard about the Tuesday Night Urban Assault and I have been eagerly awaiting the first Tuesday in October. I don't know much about Tour DeBar, when does it start, and is there a designated start point?

TdB https://www.tourdebar.com/
10 pm top of cobbs hill - basically ride hard for @45 minutes (down the face of the hill, etc - perhaps a parking garage or two, trails, UofR - anything goes) then stop at a bar - usually hit the Lux, Bugjar, Jimmymacs, StockExchange (downtown) - where many of the bars allow our bikes on premisis, may set out food for us etc. They have a fan club - we'll zoom by places and hear people yell "TOUR DEBAR" - lots of fun. I just wrote to one of the lead guys who is a good organizer - hopefully he'll light a fire. I may head down there at 10 tomorrow night to see if anyone is around - was there a couple weeks ago and no one showed so I ended up doing sprints in the city for a bit before going home.
