New guy in PA.

Hey everyone! New guy here. I guess you could call me a Clydesdale. I'm getting into biking for fun, fitness and time with family and friends.

My dad discovered road biking a few years ago and is way into it. He rides a ton. I don't have as much free time as he does but I'll get out there as much as I can.

For now I'll be riding a lead sled Mongoose rigid MTB I picked up at Dicks a few years ago on the trails. As I get more comfortable in the saddle and the savings account builds up I'll be picking up a roadie as well as a better MTB.

I'll post up some pics of the family's rides later.

Welcome! Are you in a flat part or bumpy part of PA? My bit is quite bumpy - hated it at first, but now most hills are just part of the ride. Are you going to try and commute?

Welcome, lstiffler! I ride in the Lansdale, Chalfont, and Doylestown areas. As well as a few others. See you around the forums. I'm a Clyde as well, so maybe we'll see you in the Clyde area.

I'm in Carlisle. I won't be commuting just yet. It's about a 20 mile drive to work on some pretty hairy roads.

I'll be starting out on some rails to trails as I can't find any beginner to intermediate MTB trails around. I know they're there I just have to find them.

I've been to Carlisle - the PSCF State Scholastic Chess Championship is held there - and I agree many of the roads are bike-unfriendly. Good luck.

Welcome. I live in Langhorne Pa.
Good luck with your new road bike when you get it. There are some good bike shops up your way.

I'm closer to Kimberton, actually. Outside of Phoenixville. PM me to set up a place and time to meet for a ride.

One more PA cyclist. Mountain Top, PA. Yes the name says it all, lots of hills.
Not sure if I can call myself a cyclist yet, only have 75 miles on my new road bike (Giant OCR3). I am enjoying it and I think I'll be going the 33 mile ride in the bucks county covered bridge ride oct 14th.

I used to grouse hunt thereabouts 15 years ago. A lot of looooooong steep-up and steep-down hills there.

Now it is probably 20 acres of blacktop with big box stores anchored by a "Just Tampons" mega complex.

Paradise found is paradise lost!

Welcome to the forums. The Harrisburg Bike club just had their annual ride out of LeTort park in Carlisle back on the 16th and it covered a lot of really nice roads. You should keep it in mind for next year. You can opt for one of two 25 mile rides, a 50 mile ride, or mix and match them for a 75 or 100 mile ride. Hopefully next year it will be at least above 50 degree's at starting time.

And probably never will be. Mountains don't lend themselves well to big box stores and acres of blacktop.

I live in Mechancisburg, also a board line clydesdale. I got the bike but can't seem to ride that much. the roads are way to crowded. I plan on joining HBC in the spring. They have several rides coiming out of Carlisle, they meet at the MJ Mall for road and mountain. Do a google search for the Harrisburg Bicycle Club and look at their newsletter for daily rides.

Stacy,

I grew up in Quakertown. We still have a house there, I make it down occasionally. Still love that area.
