If you can afford it, it's a good idea to buy more bike than you think you need at the moment...especially since the reason for asking about moving is because you currently don't really need a lot of gears in Florida. But you will need gears if you ride in the Blue Ridge
. Since you said that in the past you were an avid biker, I would guess that a lower end bike would not keep you happy for long.
