Cheers from the UK

I'm a yank originally from the Chicago area, but my work brings me to the UK. I've been here for two years and I'm hoping to stay for a bit longer. Married with no fetuses.

Cycling? Well, I was into mountain biking while I lived in the western US. I then moved to the St. Louis area. They have some OK trails, but I was too spoiled by the west, so I traded the mountain bike for a Surly Pacer, which is set up as a sport-touring bike. I enjoyed the road riding out there and I even managed to complete a century.

Now I'm in the UK and I haven't done much road riding out here. There's some great country, but the roads can be very scary to ride on. So I am holding on to the road bike and I recently got back into mountain biking. I have a single speed fetish, so I built up a Surly Karate Monkey with old and new mountain bike parts. The thing is sweet and a joy to ride.

Why join bikeforums? I just want to chat bikes and whatever else comes up.

Better roads here than the States - so many more small country roads with hardly any cars.

And hardly any stop signs!

Hello negative split--what part of the UK? There's some awesome MTB to be found in places like Yorkshire, out on the dales.

Welcome to BF!

I am in the east-midlands area, around Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, about 60 miles north of London. I've been cruising Thetford Forest for the meantime, but I'm planning a couple of day trips and hope to get out of the local area soon. Thanks for the tip. I went to York last year and I would love to go back. Perhaps you gave me a good reason.
