newbie here BMXING again

Hi , everybody i'am a 31 year old dad who has found bmx again. I found this site and thought i would give it a try. A little about me, i quit racing about 14 years ago due to a very serious knee injury that i did in an ABA NATIONAL, That much i remember. Now my daughter being 5 years old and riding her bike in the driveway , i found myself giving her lessons on all the wrong things. I just couldn't get her off the training wheels.Well to make a long story longer, i was at my buddy's house about a month ago and noticed a cruiser in the basement. It's brand new, he bought it about 3 years ago and straight into the basement it went. I asked if i could borrow it to ride with my daughter and he said if you want it, take it.Well we ride everyday, she is off the training wheels now and i find myself riding every chance i get. I leave my cell phone at the house and take off everyday after work to go riding.I'am out of shape , but i don't care cause i'am actually starting to feel better now.I've looked into some of the local tracks around here to start going back to get some gate practice and race on sunday. Many of the same tracks i raced as a kid are still running today.By the way i have finally found something my daughter seems to like (sportwise) and that is pretty cool.Ok i'am done thanks for reading and shoot me any ideas you got.

Welcome to the forums! I took up racing cruisers in my 30's as well. It's actually more fun, since we can afford better bikes, and there is usually a sense of camaraderie among older racers. We've got a BMX section here on the forums, and I'll apologize in advance for it, as it's mostly kids.

Cheers,

Brian

Better cruiser's might be true, but my leg's are on fire. I don't remember this being a problem.

My first real lap, I was thankful for not having breakfast, otherwise I would have lost it. We'll never be 12 again, but we can still get into better shape by riding.

Hello GBO--enjoy your BMX! And it's great that your daughter's enjoying it too...there are definitely not enough female devotees of the sport (I sure wish I'd started when I was much younger--I might have been not too bad ).

Welcome to BF!

You haven't been to your local track, or followed the races, have you?

No going to the local track when I get off at 4.30 am...and I have yet to see another female person riding at the local BMX/skate park when I ride by, even around 9.00 am on Saturdays and Sundays. Lots of guys practicing at the park though.

I will confess that I don't follow races (of any sort)...so, my bad there. I should be a better example of a devotee, eh?

I can assure you that this girl is not alone. And there were a lot of women and girls racing at my local track. A lot.
