Greetings!
Greetings everyone! I just discovered this forum while searching for a part for my Campy rear derailleur. I've been riding bikes, on and off, for over fifty years, although more this summer since I retired. Sadly, work and commuting had recently taken most of my time. Although I rode a three speed Raleigh during high school, I started working in the first performance bike shop in my area (New Orleans Lightweight Cycles) around the late 60's when I was attending college. My first road bike was a Mercian 10 speed. We received a shippment of frames and I fell in love with a yellow Vincitore with blue accents. I worked for components for several months, using mostly second hand parts. I used that bike as my primary means of transportation, for dates and for workouts with the first New Orleans riding club. As far as racing, my only claim to fame was a second place in an annual race sponsored by a French Quarter bar. I sold this bike after I got married - always a regret. In the 80's I started riding again and purchased a second hand Raleigh Professional frame that I outfitted with Suntour components. Just recently I sold the Raleigh and ordered a Mercian frame identical to the one I rode in college using the same color scheme (see picture attached). However, this time I built it up using all Campy vintage components - mostly the C-Record that I could not afford when I was younger. I subsequently purchased a second Mercian / Campy bike off of eBay (dark purple with light purple accents) that I use for a daily rider. Although I'm currently not in good enough shape to ride with a group, my goal is to slowly work up to my old habit of riding fifteen to twenty miles a day - further on weekends, weather permitting, loose a few pounds and enjoy our new local "Rails for Trails" riding path. I also want to start a Sunday morning riding group for folks who ride more for pleasure than distance and time - like we used to do when we were kids.
