howdy howdy

My name is Ben Elzay I'm from Wyoming, born and raised in 307. I've been riding for years mostly road, but I do love mtn biking. Umm... I work at a bike shop in my home town. I play the didjeridoo in order to help my breathing while out on the road it's also a meditation thing I'm into to help out with long rides gotta control you're breathing in order to keep going, at least that's how I feel. I'm all kinds of other stuffs too, mycology, cooking almost any out door sport, ceramics just to name a couple. Sorry about asking questions right off in the introductions. my bad. Ben

You are a well rounded individual, Ben! A didjeridoo player in Wyoming, who'd a thunk? Hmmm, and a mycologist as well.

I have a lot of photos of mushrooms that I need identifying. I may press you into service for that .

Looks as if your question got moved to Mountain Biking, and I couldn't have answered it anyway .

Welcome to BF!

Haven't a clue:

Another haven't a clue:

I'm really good at finding 'haven't a clues':

I am especially interested in this one--it was the same beautiful colour on the top.

Mushrooms

You're correct on the fist couple and I think the last plate is a Lobster Mushroom but I can't be sure. Did you find the last speciman with the russula if thats the case it may at one time have been a russula The lobster muchroom is really more of a parasitic mold that in most cases seeks out a non toxic mushroom. As a general rule be carefull with this one eating is not recomended unless you can positively identify the host.Do you have any measurements on the "haven't a clue mushrooms?" I'll keep checking on the rest and double check my guess on the Lobster Mushroom parasite. Thanks for the treasure hunt.

Measurements on the first HAC would be approximately two inches across on the cap, stipe length about two inches also. The cap was slightly slimy, with an odd wrinkled appearance, even though the entire fruiting body was obviously still in excellent shape. Found in full sun, in grass.

Second HAC was rather large--around 4-5 inches across the top of the cap of the largest one. Found in pine needle duff/bark mulch. Cap was dry. I'm thinking Agrocybe?

Unfortunately, when I started taking the photos of these mushrooms I wasn't really looking to see if they were edible, I was just recording the fantastic shapes and colours. Now I am interested also in seeing if I can get better at identifications for my own edification, and possible edibility.

After looking at some photos of Lobster Mushrooms I do believe that you have pinned it down! I will go back and check, but I do believe that there were Russulas growing in the same spot. It was a truly gorgeous reddish orange colour like nothing I've ever seen before.

Thanks!

East Hill
