new to the sport and need advice

I am new to the sport and I am in the market for a beginner road bike. I have been looking at the trek vs the giant. So far I am leaning torward the Giant but I am not sure which one to go with. I have about a $1000 budget maybe a little bit more. I am 5ft about 100lbs. Any suggestions???

Hello blueindian99--have you actually tried riding either one, or are you still doing research?

Keep reading, but expect to take lots of rides before buying. Try before buy!

Are you riding anything at the moment?

still doing research. A good friend is a big rider and loves the Giant along with most of the people she rides with. I currently am riding a very heavy Gary Fisher mountain bike.

Ride a lot of different bikes.
LOTS of bikes.
Research.
Think about all the different types of riding you want to do. Just road? Road and paths (like the C&O Canal)? City? Talk to the bike shops about your needs/wants.
Drop bars?
Racing or touring geometry?
So many questions, so many answers, plenty of time.

Read through the Road Cycling forum and ask your questions there. Lots of help and answers.
