Welcome! I wish I had asked around before buying my bike, I would have gotten one with drop handles. Good luck in your search!

Hi all.. thank you for your responses. I'm a recreational rider and would like to get more involved with riding. I'm in SoCal and was told there are lots of great trails so I'm thinking of getting a front suspension bike but that will allow me to mix things up such as ride on street too. Again thanks everyone!

Lots for you to think about then! There's a bewildering choice of bikes nowadays, but you might want to check into a hybrid bike--not the best of both worlds, but a compromise. If you really get into riding, you will probably want to get a road bike and a mountain bike.
