Hi from Colorado

So I keep googling questions I have about bike stuff, and keep ending up looking at threads on here, so I decided to pony up and join.

My name is Matt and I live in a town of 2800 oil field workers in the middle of nowhere Colorado. I believe that I'm the only person out here that rides for pleasure. Anyone else is doing it because of the DUI.

I started seriously riding back in the early 90's on a fully rigid mountain bike. Since then my love of mountain biking has grown with the number of trails offered to us. (Lucky me!) I still can't bring myself to ride a full suspension, but I'm now up to a whopping 3 inches of travel on my late 90's Schwinn Homegrown!

A few years ago I did a triathlon and that started me on the path to the dark side, er.. road biking. I aquired an older Trek road bike for $75, and have really enjoyed my time on the road. It's a beautiful aluminum framed tight bike that weighs 20 pounds. Not the lightest, but not bad for the money. I also have a Bianchi Brava that has become my commuter with full fenders and front and rear racks.

My latest purchase is an Apollo road bike from the age of the dinosaurs, or maybe the 80's. My plan is to fix it. I know it's the trendy thing to do, but, apart from making a frame yourself, the artist expression in fixie form can't be beaten.

That's about it, well except for the Haro dirt bike and the Giant mtb frame hanging around. I'm pretty excited to get in on the great discussions on this forum.

Talk to you later.

Hello Matt, before you do that fixie conversion to the Apollo, take some photos of it and show it off to us at the Classic & Vintage forum (where we will do what we can to persuade you not to hack off the bits you aren't using ).

Glad to hear that all cycling paths lead to BF--we've been hearing a lot of that lately .

Welcome to BF!

Matt,

Welcome from another recent joiner to BF and also a CO resident! (Colorado Springs for me)

Sounds like you've immersed yourself quite well in the cycling culture. A fixie is quite the thing to ride and is keeping with the metropolitan push towards artistic velo expression.

I'm going to be building one as well in Jan...just it's going to be a track weapon for the velodrome, don't think I'll be able to ride it much where I live...waaaaay too many hills!

Cheers,

Allen
