Hello from NC

Hi,

My name is Essex from Stokesdale, NC. I am 21 years old and go to Furman University. The only thing I have ridden is the stationary bikes in the gym and a few spinning sessions. But for the same reason that I hate running on treadmills, I hate being indoors riding a bike. I want to be outside, with the wind in my hair.

I am a clyde, at 6'3" and 240 lbs. I am in ROTC, so I normally run. Slightly less than 35 minutes to run a comfy 5 miles, and 12:30 to run 2 mi. I am looking to add another aspect to my fitness. Then maybe some swimming later, but that's a big maybe b/c I'm horrible. In the past 2 weeks, i've started trying to do 15-20 mi riding the stationary, but i'm looking to get a real bike and see how that goes.

Hi Essex, outside riding a bike is good! I'll get out in virtually any weather rather than trudge on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike .

I'll look forward to seeing you over at the Clydes/Athenas forum, but don't forget to check out the regional forums to say hi as well.

What kind of cycling are you looking at--road, mtb, XC?

Welcome to BF!

7 minute miles for a guy 240 is awesome. I'm in High Point and am too familar with the Hill Billy Hideaway.
And yes, I too are a clyde. There are some great rides in your backyard, especially down toward Pine Hall and around Belews Creek. Even a jaunt up towards Hanging Rock is spectacular. Welcome.
