New from Belgium

Hi,
I was asked to introduce myself, so here's me in a few words.

My name is Werner, wekke for 90% of the people I know. I live in Belgium (Mechelen, next to Brussels) and I'm 34 years old. I earn my money with working at Plantyn, the biggest educational publisher in Belgium. Online marketing is my domain.

Became an active cycling fan about 7 years ago when I was recovering from knee surgery. Before I was only passively interested in cycling with the 'Ronde van Vlaanderen' and the 'tour de france' as the highlights of the cycling season. The last 2 years I've cut back the hours spent to football (ok, soccer for the most of you). Since then it's been cycling and duathlon for me. I'm small and a lightweight so it will not be a surprise that my favourite tracks are to be found in the Belgian hills (Liege-Bastogne-Liege) and the mountains (Alps, Pyrenees, Vogezen, ...).

Why I started following this forum? Next year I'll visit my friends in New York/New jersey for 5 weeks. Besides from the classic tourist stuff I would also like to do some cycling and maybe be a new bike (a lot cheaper in the US, e.g a Cannondale super six 3 costs 3000 $ in the USA and 4500 $ in Belgium). I hope to find some advice about nice cycling tracks and bike stores on this forum.

Hello Wekke, ask around in the regional forums about places to visit/things to do cycling in NY and NJ. You might find some new friends here along the way, and it won't hurt to ask, eh?

Welcome to BF!

Hello Wekke,

"Beste wensen voor 2008."

I'll go on in English, so the international community will be able to read also.

I've been around this forum for a few days only. It's a nice place to share biking experiences. There's lots of info available here. Have a nice stay on this forum.

I live in Antwerp. Bye now.

Thanks for the welcome words and for the advice. My best wishes (beste wensen for Berre) for 2008.

I'll visit the northeast coast september and/or october of this year (after the duatlon season). Still plenty of time to explore the regional forums. I already found some interesting stuff.

I did notice some typing mistakes in my original message. No big deal of course but also one big mistake. I mentioned the c'dale supersix, of course it's the system six I was referring to.

I think we all figured that out , no need to worry about that.

Welcome to the forum. Mechelen...man do we love going to the monthly market in the Nekkerhal. Too bad we are going to miss the one in January since we are going back to the states for a month to visit the family. Remember that when you bring back that bike you are going to be hit hard with the VAT...unless you have ways around it...
