Hi, from Chicago

Hey, folks! Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I started riding in earnest this past spring when I decided to start riding my bike to work instead of using public transportation. I'm just having a blast even after having two bikes get stolen already! Didn't deter me in the least.

I don't do any serious long distance riding, just the short commute to work (3 mi. each way) along with some recreational riding. Even that small amount has helped me trim down to a 30" pant waist size and I feel fantastic. So far, I've been toughing it out for most of the winter, but there were a couple super windy/cold days that I decided to skip riding.

Right now I'm riding a Schwinn Ranger mtb (I know, I know . . .evil dept. store bike ) and I'm actually quite pleased with it. It's been nothing but reliable and after the recent tune-up I got for it, it rides better than brand-new. That's probably a good indication that it wasn't assembled competently at Target, but whatever.

Anyway, I look forward to learning more through reading through the forums and discussing with the fine people here!

MadCap, welcome to the boards. Tons of Chicago and Chicagolanders on the boards.

Check out the Great Lakes sub-forum when you get a chance. Several folks ride in the City on a regular basis.

Cy - I'll definitely check out the Great Lakes sub-forum.

East Hill - Luckily they were crappy bikes, so I wasn't out a ton of cash. The last one that was stolen got snagged right outside the restaurant that I bartend at. It was on a bike rack that I can SEE from behind the bar! The thief must've gotten lucky and swiped it when I had my back turned. But it's cool, the handlebar had become loose and would sometimes rotate independently of the front wheel. I like to think that karma did its thing to the bike thief that stole that one. I'm much happier with my current bike, anyhow.

Hey Madcap!

Welcome to BF. As cylowe97 stated, there are many Chicagoans and Midwestern people here so check out the Great Lakes forum. Well, happy riding.

A fellow Chicagoan,
