Bay Area Greetings

Well I finally got off my backside and converted from a lurker to a poster. I live in the east bay, and have just got back into riding after a prolonged absence due to the arrival of 2 small kids - mostly weekends, mostly ~20miles or so trying to get some hills in. I've been riding for the last 6-7 months on my 9yr old aluminum hybrid. It has done me well since I moved to NorCal - I have made the single concession of switching out my weird (i.e. crap) hybrid tires for some armadillo's which has been great. However 'tis time to consider a roadbike for me at last. I'm sure I'll be looking for some sage advice in the coming weeks

Hi Beaker! Tons of members from your part of the Bay, so don't forget to check out the regional forums to say hi over there.

What kind of road bike are you looking at?

Welcome to BF!

I'm just starting to work that out -- a brief visit to my LBS was useful. The sales guy suggested a road test of 3 or 4 models. I'm looking in the 2K range, but I'm not biased at this point. One of the bikes we looked at was an 07 Trek 5000 - it was good to see the back and forth on the Trek 5000 vs CAAD 9 discussion over on the road cycling forums recently. No evidence that this one has a cracked frame though...

I'd love to hear any advice from the BF community.

I'd throw the question out to the roadies in the Road Cycling forum. They'll chew it over for you, and be happy to provide you with multiple opinions .
