Good evening from Seattle.

Hello all,

I started riding road bikes when I was about 16 and gave it up at around 19-20. During those 3 or 4 years of cycling, I forced myself into great shape and made a lot of wonderful memories. I am 30 now and have not ridden since 21 years of age...

...So I bought a bike last week. My new steed is an '05 Tarmac Pro.

Back in the day I think I was around 145lb. Now I am a healthy (?) 210. In other words, it's time to get back on the saddle and tear it up.

I plan on perusing this website for the info that I need to make the big 'turn-around'. And at some point I hope to make a contribution as well.

Take care,

JT Christianson

Hi JT, don't forget to say hi to us in the Pacific Northwest regional forum .

Where do you normally ride? You can find me generally on the Big Soos Creek Trail, the Cedar River Trail, and Interurban/Green River Trail.

Welcome to BF!

Hey JT. Your story sounds familiar, as I took a similar path back to cycling many moons ago and I'm still going strong today. Your new machine will help motivate you to ride - not to mention all the motivation provided by this site and its great membership.

Welcome to BikeForums, JT!

Hello JT- My path to fitness also mirrors yours. I biked in my teens, stopped in college and my 20's, then picked it up again at age 31. I got hooked on to cycling the 2nd time around and been riding for the last 2 1/2 years. Welcome to the bike forums.

Hey all,

Thanks everyone for the wonderful and more importantly, motivational welcome!

An update: After looking for my old Diadora road shoes and deciding that remaining left shoe is not enough, I went out and bought a pair of Shimano R075 shoes. In spite of the ridiculously low price of these shoes, I find their quality and comfort to be much better than other shoes of equal or slightly higher price, well, this compared to what I found at Performance in the U-District during my lunch break today.

Anyways, I assembled my new/used Tarmac last night after picking it up at the local Fedex. I could not be happier. She really is a beautiful machine.

Once I bolted my cleats into place after work today, I loaded the Tarmac onto the trainer and spun in different gears for, oh, 5 minutes. Once I'd gotten done coughing, I cracked a beer (Moylan's Hopsickle Imperial Ale) and proceeded to marvel thinking, "Baby steps, baby steps".

Thus I nervously embark into a new life. Help me pull through!

After reading through many a section of BF I can say with certainty that I really do appreciate you all.

Regards,

JT

You have a VERY understanding wife, you know that, don't you ?

Have you gotten out lately, or is it just too dang cold for you?

Actually, the wife didn't realize the bike had been on the counter until she saw the image on my computer much later! I told her that the counter offered the best lighting for the photos...

I did get the bike out last Monday and yes, the cold was a little much, that and I don't have a pump yet. This will be remedied about an hour from now!
