New, and hoping to bite off more than i can chew

Hello all,
To tell the truth I dont even own a bicycle at the moment. Just quit my job and left my house, and about to travel India, Nepal and the Himalayas or 5 months. Ive got a real urge to buy a bike while Im over there and really get off the beaten track. The true logistics of this are still to be discovered, and so i thought id join this great forum. If things go well, id love to build up to a series of long distance rides through Russia and Mongolia. Plus of course my home country of Australia. Looking forward to doing some serious learning.

I love this kind of stuff! Keep your journal on a website while you're travelling so friends, family and people in general can read and see (if you take pictures) what you're doing and how you are. I would totally read it! Blogger.com would work and it's free. It's an experience of a lifetime and you should document it.

I was in South East Asia including India in 2001 and loved it. Bikes are as numerous as people, cars, motorcycles, and cows. It's intense and can be overwhelming at times but worth every minute. Above all else Varanasi is the holy city and should be experienced. This time of year they also have incredible festivals. Good luck and happy travels... I'm jealous but will be there again next year (hopefully).

Cheers!

Indeed, India is one place I would love to visit in the coming years .

Blogging would be a wonderful way to remember your trip--it's like having an online diary.

Welcome to BF!
