mechanical brakes

Yo' Y'all
I just acquired an Avon brand 23" frame mens bike. This has 28" rims with mechanical brakes. Can anyone offer any history on this bike? I'd like to restore it To its former glory, but I need a few parts. Can anyone help me?
I also have a 22" Nishiki Semi-pro from the early 1970's and a circa 1948 Raleigh Record Ace with a Sturmey Archer FOUR speed. The Avon would be a nice addition to my collection.
Thanks

Pictures are always good! By the way, I am a Nishiki fanatic...I have five Nishikis :) , including a Nishiki Pro.

Hopefully there are two photos of the Avon bike attached somewhere.I have more but the file size is to large for the email.I called a local bike shop today, they were of little help. They did tell me that the brakes are called "rod brakes". That sounds to me like a good stage name for a pro rider! Let me know if these come thru or I will resend.

By the way, long, long ago I managed a bike shop here in Tucson. The most unusual repair I did was a rickshaw. Parts must be available from somewhere!

If you don't already have a photo hosting account such as Photobucket, or flick'r, now is a good time to sign up for a free one! It's much easier to link to your photos than to try to fit in the size requirements here :) .
