Young and Bikeless (Hopefully not for long)

Hello! My name is Natalie and I actually decided to buy a bike back in December. I got it used, it was a red Schwinn Mesa Runner, Women's and I LOVED it. I loved riding it around town, to my boyfriend's, to the Bay, it was 100% awesome. Unfortunately I was stupid and didn't properly lock up my bike one day and it was stolen. Fortunately the thief was also stupid and I found my bike on craigslist the same day. Long story short, they caught him but never found my bike. I claimed restitution for the price of the bike, rack, and lock and I'm still waiting to see if I'll get any money back.

But I'm still bikeless and sad that I can't enjoy this new hobby that I'd discovered. I decided to buy another and I'm in the process of figuring out which road I want to take (hur), new or used, hybrid, road, mountain (I'm leaning heavily towards hybrid). The bike I'm looking at right now is a 2008 Bianchi Cortina.

I go to UC Berkeley and this is definitely a bike heavy town (although I don't know about bike friendly, it's scary as hell riding around sometimes, and the potholes, UHG!). I love riding, I swear I feel like I'm flying, and it's always great to be able to make it up the killer hill that was so hard the last time... I guess I'm also an Athena, I'm 5'5" 220lbs. I usually feel awkward biking, especially with all these skinny little chicks on road bikes zipping around, but I try not to let it get to me. I love it and I can't wait to get back out on the road! (sorry if this was long)

    Hey, another Cal student! Welcome.

That sucks about your old bike, but at least the thief got caught. You'll definitely want to get a good lock (or locks), especially if you get a brand new bike. Good luck on your search, too--hopefully the rain won't pick up again and you'll be back on the streets soon.

Heyyyyy, good to find someone else from Berkeley. I've been out in light rain a couple of times and I didn't mind it. I don't know if I want to go around when it's pouring, though.

Right. I recently bought a bike trainer, though, so I've become quite the weather weenie.

Laaaame! It's so fun being out in it. I dunno, I kinda like to get dirty, though.

Bike trainer, are you on the team?

Hi Natalie, no weather weenies allowed here. We get out there rain or rain in Seattle and local environs, so there's no excuse to not ride in the rain.

The sun is a different story.... .

    Welcome to BF!
