Hi I'm Chris, found this forum when I was doing a search on the Schwinn Ranger which I'm planning on buying in a couple of weeks.
I'm 52 and work for IBM, live in the burbs north of Austin with my wife and 3 kids. It's a nice place to live if you can stand the summer heat :-).
I'm a runner and founded the Dead Runners Society, a listserv list which has been going on for almost 17 years. I decided to take up biking for cross-training after buying my kids bikes for Christmas. My wife works at Target where we bought the bikes and I thought cross-training would be fun.
At first I looked at the Schwinn Trailway but the more I read reviews on the Target web site and Amazon the more the Ranger appealed to me, might be fun to have a MTB. My riding will be mostly in my neighborhood, on and off the road and getting out to one of the local park trails every now and then (after I buy a bike rack). And it will be fun to get out with the kids.
I'm sure I will learn more as time goes on and work my way up to a nicer bike but for now this is a good bike to start with, seems to fit my needs and budget. Once I get it I will take it to a LBS to get it tuned, know that it's going to need some adjustments.
Nice to meet you all.
