Newbie from Little Rock

...as in Little Rock, Arkansas. Land of Bill & Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee. Actually, they're just wannabe expatriates, those of us left behind are the real Arkansans!

Entering my 6th decade and been riding since I was a child. Back then a bike was the primary means of transportation for kids...and more than that, it seems most of our lives were transacted on bikes. In young adulthood, after getting out of the US Army in 1971, the first thing I did was buy a lemon-yellow Schwinn Continental...an indestructable tank! Over the years working, often commuted to work and did weekend rides. Bought a top-notch touring bike in 1983 -- Trek 720 -- and did some modestly long runs on it. Got into mountain biking, with a Schwinn Moab and Bontrager custom MTB, and have made several trips to bikers' Mecca, Moab Utah.

Retiring in June '08 and am prepping my old Trek 720 for a round the Arkansas border trip (around 1000 miles) in July. Planning for a coast-to-coaster next summer, assuming the old body can handle the first course...

Arkansas has some first rate single-track routes and spectacular mountains for scenic bike touring. Y'all come!

Duude - you have some nice plans set up for your retirement! Enjoy!

If yer "coaster" comes up towards the NE way - give me a should and if you get thru here I'll see what I can muster up in the way of other BikeForumites to meet you. If not, no problem - enjoy!!!
