Hello all,

I'm Dave, a 49 year old roadie from the Boston suburbs. I've been riding fairly steadily for the past 20 years. Last year, I bought myself a new Bianchi Imola to augment the inexpensive Nishiki Sport that served me well for the first 19 years of my riding. Right now, I'm eagerly awaiting the spring (we just got about 8" of snow here) so I can get back on the road.

I've been lurking here for a couple of months and find this site to be a very refreshing change from other forums (bike related and other) that I have frequented over the years. There's lots of good content and good spirit here. I look forward to being a participating member.

Hi Dave, your Bianchi is an upgrade over the Nishiki Sport, but seeing as I have five Nishikis in my herd, I love them all :) . There's a thread going in Classic & Vintage for serial numbers of Nishikis, if you would care to contribute whatever knowledge you can about your Sport.

I have a Sport mixte by the way. It's certainly not top of the line, but it's a great little bike, nevertheless.

Glad to see that you have come out of the woodwork, and I know that everyone here will look forward to seeing some more posts from you :D .

Welcome to Bike Forums!! I'm sure your new bike is quite a change. From the shifters to the geometry. It's amazing how bikes can be so different, isn't it?

The Nishiki served me VERY well for many long years, but the Bianchi is a joy to ride. I think part of the enjoyment comes simply from the difference between the two bikes. I logged uncounted thousands of miles on the Nishiki; just riding something new is nice. The brifters took some getting used to after my bar-end shifters (one of just a couple of mods I made on the Nishiki), but I do find I shift a lot more often now and, consequently, maintain a more steady cadence and speed.

I have yet to check my serial number against the Nishiki database. May I assume I won't be committing any sin against Vintage bikedom if I convert it to a fixie?

The only thing we ask is that you keep all the parts together, and don't grind off any bits. That way, if you ever decide to re-gear, or sell the bike, you'll still have the original parts :) .
