Hello from MD - a concerned Mom

My 19 year old son wants to travel from MD to CA "alone" on his bike. Has anyone in this forum done this before? If so, how safe is it. I worry about vehicles and dangerous people. Please help me calm my nerves. Thanks for your thoughts

I think he'll be fine, and so will you.

Check out our Touring Forum, and ask the experts some questions.

Does he have cycling experience? Can he fix his bike? There are some basic skills to have, but I think it would be a great thing to do, a life-changing/affirming experience.

My friend just up and rode from Maryland to Chiapas, Mexico last year. His original plan was to ride to Brazil, but he had to come back for his sister's wedding. He is young, and very dedicated: https://biketobrazil.blogspot.com/
