    Hello from a British Traveller

    Hey all

I am a British Traveller, currently in Auckland. When I was in the UK I would commute to work on my bike (no car!) and also cycle for fun. I really like the health benefits of cycling, but also the benefit to my wallet

The longest ride I ever did was with my father and brother from Barnstable to Newquay in 4 days, doing just over 100 miles I think. That was a good laugh but I had a painful bum afterwards!!

I have purchased a 2nd hand bike here in Auckland, and I now commute to my temp job, which is good, except Auckland has got to be the hillyest (a word?) city ever!

The bike I have at the moment is a mountain bike, (some strange brand I've never heard of - 'Huffy', and it has grip shifts… grrr), and is in bad condition. The parts are okay, but I think it's been left to rot for ages in a garage, so I need to sort out the cables. That's why I looked out this forum actually; I have no idea how to start on that task, because of the stupid grip shifts.

I don't have any bike back home in the UK right now, because it was stolen from my garden

Okay, that's enough rambling for now…
I bloody hate cycling Auckland's hills... Take me back to flat ol' Reading!

Hello käseschwein, Huffy is a very well known brand here in the United States . How old is it, exactly?

    Welcome to BF!

Yup, I'm just reading through the techie stuff now. I didn't know about that dude's website either (the one with the bird on his helmet... all I can recall about him atm ), I'll be using that for quick reference in future.

My bike is supposedly about 1 year old, but everything's rusted on it, and the gears keep changing on their own all the time, so I've got to sort it out really.

    Thanks for the welcome!

That would be Sheldon Brown, who was a truly wonderful man and a great contributor to BikeForums...
