I started riding regularly only about a year ago. My main ride is a 2006 Raleigh Cadent 2.0 road bike. Nothing fancy, but I intend to keep it for a while. Maybe after school I'll treat myself to something nicer.
Last summer I built up an IRO Jamie Roy frame. It was my first fixed gear, and I loved learning how to put everything together. I never considered myself to be any sort of mechanic, so it was a small triumph in my life to actually assemble something from scratch. I rode it for about 5 months and then decided to sell it and work on a larger frame.
Now I'm working on an IRO Angus. I hope to finish that one up before summer.

Hi Trouble Me, sounds as if you like those fixies . You must live in the not quite so steep part of SF!

hey Welcome!
There is a lot of good info here about different bikes and working on them yourself...you'll have a lot of fun reading older threads.
