Raleigh 20 Nutcase

Hi yep,

Another one joins the fun..next best thing to a BikeFriday that I can have it's my BikeMonday...lol not a folder as yet but will be when I get the cutting gear out after dry building and playing around to see what is going to fit where.. this was born out of a donation to re~cycle as I have been running a local collection point for any old bikes that I can get my hands on saving them from going to the skips and landfill sites in my area.. having walked the legs off myself doing this the need for something to pick the bikes up.. I drive but don't own or wont to own a car.. as I have no need for one... So to making up from parts on hand a little bike we can use to tow a trailer behind..do the shopping ect.. take on Holiday on the train 20/20 vision was born after drinking 3lts of cider... later, I started work on it..lol

As you can see lots to do yet only single speed for now and on the look out for some nice forks to fit..have a load of bmx ones but all to short so will have to cut-mod-weld hit with big hammer to make fit..
sorting out the crank will be the next job on the list..

Right back to the cider then oh the joys of pressing apples yourself..hic hic...:D Re-Cycle by the way This is a small UK-based charity that aims to provide affordable bikes to local people in Africa. This helps improve access to employment, education, healthcare and social opportunities in rural communities. From our Colchester UK base, we prepare and ship donated cycles to partner projects in Africa. In Africa, they become essential transport, employment... and provide much enjoyment too.

It's got the heron chainring :D .

You are not the only champion of Raleigh 20s here--I think member Sixty Fiver has a couple if I'm not mistaken.

I think I am going to perhaps post a link to your site at another site I visit. It's the one in my signature, the WildlifeUK one (you can reach it through my blog). I think the members there would be interested in your partnerships, especially as I see that your latest shipment was sponsored by Eagle Heights Birds of Prey Sanctuary...

Tell us more about cider pressing!

Welcome to BF!

Hi thanks for the link to wildlifeUK i have not seen the site before...Yes I would like to keep the heron chainring on the bike as I like that.. I have been to Eagle Heights for a day out.. before they agreed to help us out http://www.eagleheights.co.uk/
and what a day that was amazing... I was so taken I am booking a hawking day with them so looking very much to doing this a good trip down to kent via bikes on the train for 5 of us...cool...

The cider thing just happened as the allotment next to mine had been left for a long time and had loads of apples going to waste so I know have two allotments on the go..being a cider lover got a book and still getting drunk on last years crop...lol

One of my more memorable moments on my last visit to England and Wales was going to see red kites in Wales :D .

I think I am going to learn to make cider--there is an abandoned orchard just down the road from us, and the apples just litter the ground in autumn. Better to make good use of them, eh?

We have had Red Kites flying over the house most days it's nice to see they are making a good comeback we now have two herons taken up on the lake just around the corner and as I looked up yesterday when I was out for a ride.. one was flying over my head.. I can only hope they stay and nest.. Cider making is not very hard they are lots of good web sites to help you along..even showing how to make a little press.. you just need a old bottle jack and some wood from the DIY shop I haven't a link on hand but just google away.. Made some time to show you the link:::
