Hello from Reno.

Howdy, I'm Dave and I just got back on a bike for the first time in 10 years in an effort to get healthy again. Got myself a Kona Dew Plus and I am using it to commute to and from work, 20 miles round trip.

I must say this forum has been very helpful in getting me back on a bicycle.

Hi there.. I am Marnie from Elko, NV. We'll be in Reno for a couple of weeks towards the end of the month. We're avid roadies, mtn bikers, and I'm digging my new touring bike. Glad to see you back on yours! And how awesome that you are commuting! I use mine for a lot of errands around town, works out fantastic.

I live over near Rosewood Lakes golf course off Mira Loma. My commute takes me down to Mnt Rose Highway and 395. I'm hoping to ride year round.

What's the riding like on Mount Rose Highway? 395 sounds bad enough!

Thankfully I don't have to go very far up Mnt Rose Highway, but I'm overweight so its not the most fun part of my commute. It took 2 trips into work to figure out the best route to avoid the worst of rush hour traffic on the south part of town. Overall though, the trip is not bad, uphill on the way into work and downhill going home. Still getting the feel for riding with traffic as most of my previous bicycling experience was on trails with a mountain bike.

Once my endurance gets up and I lose some more weight I'll probably change my route up to include more uphill climbs. Hoping to talk a friend into fixing his bike up so we can hit a MUP downtown that follows the Truckee river. Haven't rode much in Reno so still looking for good spots to ride at my current skill level.

Getting used to traffic can be interesting! Make sure you get a mirror for your helmet--it really helps to be able to see the traffic.

Ok how is everybody doing? Still in Reno right? I'm in Reno too as my name just may lead you to believe.
Maybe we need a Reno or at least Nevada forum now. Nor-Cal has one so why don't we. Any members here in the Pedalers or Alta Alpina clubs?
